First Aid for Dogs: What to do When Emergencies Happen

First Aid for Dogs: What to do When Emergencies Happen by Bruce Fogle (Author).
It has almost 200 pages of information about a variety of conditions that can occur at home, in the neighborhood, or in the field. It makes very clear what to look for (symptoms) and then gives a helpful "decision tree" (if this is present, then do or look for ---; if that is not present, then look for or do ---).
It very clearly tells how to check symptoms. It covers almost every imaginable condition a dog owner would usually encounter. In the money it will save in trips to the vet that weren't needed, using this book will save its cost many times over.
The book is very well organized into sections, Part 1, What to do first, how to make splints, etc,; Part 2, What to do next, checking symptoms, what to observe; Part 3, First aid for various emergencies; Part 4, improving health, how to give/apply meds. The line drawing illustrations are simple, clear, and helpful. The index is comprehensive and useful.

The Kitty Treats Cookbook

The Kitty Treats Cookbook by Michele Bledsoe (Author), James Walton (Illustrator), Kelly Schaefer (Illustrator)
The second edition of this feline-friendly illustrated cookbook comes with a small fish-shaped cookie cutter and recipes such as Paw Lickn' Chickn'. There are a few recipe books out there for cats and most have many many more recipes. Every ingredient is already in your house or you get it at any grocery store. Nothing expensive either. Not every recipe can use cookie cutters and even for the ones you can, you don't have to. But it is nice to do with kids and especially nice to make them for gifts to other cat lovers. And for the holidays, you can use other cookie cutters or even use food coloring for green and red.
The recipes are easy. It isn't a whole hassle to make these snacks. Takes no time at all. This book contains very basic recipes with ingredients that can be found in any food store around the country. Directions were very clear and since the book is coated, it's very easy to clean. This book is the only one most anyone would need if they want to make some home-made cat treats. It has straightforward, fairly easy recipes with ingredients that are easily found.
